Cox downplays cannabis funding for law enforcement, Family Council kicks off tour October 11, 2022 By Griffin Coop Jerry Cox told a group in Jonesboro Friday that legalizing recreational marijuana in Arkansas won’t create significant revenues for law enforcement and will create a drug problem in the state, according to a report from KAIT TV in Jonesboro. Cox, executive director of the Arkansas Family Council, was speaking as part of the Family Council Action Committee’s anti-legalization tour of cities around the state. The Arkansas Adult Use Cannabis Amendment would dedicate 15% of the sales tax revenue generated from recreational marijuana sales to fund a stipend for certified law enforcement officers. Cox said the money for law enforcement would not be significant and that legalization would result in more people being addicted to marijuana. Cox also believes the drug problem could exacerbate in the state if the bill passes, saying Arkansas is not equipped to battle an even bigger drug problem. “We don’t have a very good drug treatment network here in our state as some states do. And so what we’re going to have is a business that moves into Arkansas, whose entire model in turn creates more people addicted to their drug,” he said. The Family Council has also held a tour stop in Blytheville, according to the organization’s Twitter account.
